Look.
See.
Just because I don't twist like a multicolored fish to show you exactly what side you wish to see, does not mean I lack the colors.
Statues have shadows in the sunlight, statues have shadows in the darkness.
As do I but I am not a statue, there are no statutes to what I must be,
So I can stand and fall and build and rock and sing and change and lip and love.
and still be my own, and you will have trouble finding my shadow
for there is no stillness.
No stillness in me.
I am not an advertisement, there is no 60 second preview to everything that I am.
My calories and vitamin content are not tattooed on my back or tailored to your diet
You won't find me online, or at a store, I am not available to tack to your
oh-so-precious comprehensive gift registry.
So if you've pigeon-holed me tonight,
please don't look for me there tomorrow,
I will be gone.
Twice is a luxury when there are so many things I have yet to do just once.
I am not a fan of antipathy, it doesn't suit my skin
and so I don't wear it.
My personality is not a fashion accessory, so I could never swap it out
for a better size, or fit, or wear it to accent the brown in my eyes or the words on your lips.
Changing like a chameleon to blend into the scenery,
of the countless others, trying to blend into others.
Until we are just mirrors stacked upon mirrors stacked upon mirrors
with nothing but recycled reflections, so obviously uninspired.
My lack of animosity is not to be recognized
as passivity just because I lack the room
amidst all the indifference lining my veins.
I am in no haste to show you that I can be hard, I can reject, I can be petty and aggressive, and though I may not be able to dislike with a passion,
I am able to dislike, though it doesn't make me proud.
I will not change my ways to help you see the parts you have missed.
If you were to look, maybe you would see.
You don't need to be wearing 3-d glasses for everything to be 3-d.
Look.
See.
